Angola: Over 270 Fires Recorded in 12 Months

Huambo — The Civil Protection and Fire Services (SNPCB) recorded at least 278 small and big fires from November of 2011 until November this year in the central Huambo province.

These data were announced on Saturday by the local police commander, João Ricardo, underlining that there was a drop of 29 fires if compared to the previous period.

According to him, the fires destroyed residences that were caused by negligence, electrical short circuit and butane gas leak.

As result of the fires, João Ricardo regretted the death of 22 citizens, serious and light injuries of 50 people, besides the material damages estimated at AKZ 7.5 million.

He said that the districts of Huambo, Caála and Bailundo recorded more fire during the last 12 months.
