Eritrea: World Day of the Disabled Commemorated At National Level

Asmara — World Day of the Disabled was commemorated today for the 17th time at national level.

Speaking on the observance event at the Expo Grounds, Mr. Mihretab Fisehaye, Director General of Social Welfare department in the Ministry, indicated that the Government has been making enormous investment in the rehabilitation and care of disabled citizens. He further expressed conviction that strategies to this end could be sustainable only through adherence to community-based approach, and called on pertinent bodies to step up integrated efforts in this regard.

Ms. Siedi Musa, head of the Department for follow-up of associations for the Disabled, called on the citizenry to extend a helping hand in national endeavors towards raising production capacity of the Disabled, and said that programs that would be staged until December 5 in connection with the Day focus on challenging the stereotypes pertaining to the Disabled.

Various programs including cultural shows by disabled citizens, exhibitions and sports contests are being staged, according to reports.
