Tanzania: Olchoronyori Resident Succumbs to Illicit Gin

A resident of Olchoronyori Village in Msitu wa Tembo Ward, Simanjiro District Manyara Region, Abubakari Salum (40) died allegedly after drinking illicit liquor.

Confirming the incident, the Regional Police Commander of Manyara Region, Mr. Akili Mpwapwa said that it happened on November 25, this year in Olchoronyori Village.

He said that on the day of the incident, Salum was seen exhausted after a drinking spree. Some villagers fed him with porridge but after a few gulps he fell down unconscious. The resident reported the incident at the Police Post of Msitu wa Tembo who rushed him to the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), Moshi.

After post mortem, Salum's body was handed over to his relatives for burial.

The Regional Police Commander urged residents of Manyara Region to abandon brewing, selling and drinking the illicit gin since it has dire adverse effects to the community.
