Uganda: Weightlifter Jamil Lubega Poised for USPA Prize

Uganda youth weightlifter Jamil Lubega leads the pack for the monthly Nile Special USPA sports personality as the scribes converge at Oasis Restaurant, Lugogo to pick their best for the month of November today.

Lubega is lined for the accolade after he won a gold and two silver medals at the Africa youth weightlifting Championships in Tunisia.

But it will not be an easy ride for Lubega, who comes up against Kenya Premier League player of the year Dan Sserunkuuma.

Women's 42km MTN Kampala Marathon winner Immaculate Chemutai and East Africa beach volleyball championship winners Dickens Otim and partner Ambrose Okello are among other contenders who are lined up for the accolade that comes with half million shillings courtesy of sponsors Nile Special.

The scribes meeting will also discuss plans to crown their Sports Personality of the Year at the annual gala due in Kampala next month.

The assembly that starts at 10am, will also be attended by foreign sports journalists who are here covering the CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup that is ongoing in Kampala.
