Uganda: Woman Arrested for Battering Son

The Police in Seeta have arrested a woman who has been torturing her 8-year old son accusing him of theft.

Robina Namayanja 24, a resident of Baggala Zone in Goma Division, Mukono Municipality, was arrested Monday morning after concerned residents saw her flogging Jonathan Ssentamu like a wild animal accusing him of stealing her sh5000.

A whimpering Ssentamu was found bleeding from deep cuts to his head; had swollen arms, battered swollen buttocks and a scarred back.

Seeta Police post in charge, Gaston Twinamasiko, said they were quickly alerted by residents that Namayanja was about to kill her son with canes, and that it was a daily occurrence for her to flog him senseless.

On her part, Namayanja said she was disciplining the boy because he had become a habitual thief. Twinamasiko said Namayanja wil be charged with child abuse vide file number SD26/03/12/2012.
