Nigeria: Muslim Group Faults Critics of Osun Hijrah Holiday

The Joint Muslim Action Forum (JOMAF) yesterday faulted those criticising the declaration of Muharram 1, 1434 Hijra as a public holiday by Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The group described the criticism by a newspaper as an abuse of editorial opinion and journalism profession.

The group stated this in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Kola Uzamot and Barrister Qaasim Odedeji, Coordinator and Secretary of the group.

"We ask why they will not leave the man alone. Why the hatred for Mr. Rauf Aregbesola? Is it for his pronouncement of Islam? Is it for his 'sunnatic beards'? Only his enemies from the Punch Newspaper could answer these posers? When Aregbesola appointed four Muslims out of 13 commissioners, nobody talked.," the statement said.
