Somali government forces, backed by Kenyan troops and warplanes, clashed with al-Shabaab militants near Garbaharey on Thursday (November 29th), Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported.
The clashes started when allied forces approached Burdhubo, an al-Shabaab-controlled city near Garbaharey in the Gedo region.
"So far, the exact number of casualties is yet unclear as the fighting is raging on," said Somali Lieutenant Colonel Aden Hirse Rufle, adding that Kenyan air strikes destroyed militant training camps and arms caches.
