Grand Sheikh of al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayyeb and a number of national figures have reached an agreement on an initiative that aims at bringing closer political powers for the sake of the homeland and to end the current crisis in Egypt.
This came during a meeting held at al-Azhar headquarters on Monday 3/12/2012 between Head of the National Council for Human Rights and Chairman of the Constitution's Constituent Assembly Hossam el-Gheryani, Head of the Arabic Language Academy and CA member Hassan el-Shafie, former presidential candidate and CA member Mohamed Selim el-Awwa and al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Advisor and CA member Mohamed Abdel-Salam.
The participants agreed on contacting all the parties concerned to activate the initiative as soon as possible in order to reach a consensus for Egypt's best interests.
The meeting was held as part of efforts by al-Azhar's Grand Sheikh to unify ranks in light the state of political division the country is going through.
In a related context Pope Twadharos II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Episcopate urged all people to pray for Egypt.
