Gambia: Armed Forces Head Coach, Captain Upbeat Ahead of Cup

The head coach and captain of the Gambia Armed Forces FC currently in Abidjan, Ivory Coast participating in the 12-team African Military Football Cup from the 3rd to 17th December have said that they are optimistic of coming come with the trophy.

Head Coach Alhagie Sey and Captain Lamin Colley were speaking to Observer Sports and West Coast Radio shortly after meeting the chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Ousman Barjie, on Thursday ahead of their departure.

Alhagie Sey said they are going to represent the country and will raise the flag high during the competition. "We are well prepared and ready for the championship and by the grace of God we will come back home with glory," the coach said,adding that the Gambia Armed Forces is in the same group with Burkina Faso and Kenya. Two teams will make it to the next stage of the competition.

On his part, Lamin Colley, team captain, said they will maintain a high sense of discipline as stressed by the CDS during their visit to his office. "We are fully prepared for the tournament as we have been well motivated and have been training for almost two months," he added. He assured that they are going to do their best to book their ticket to the Azerbaijan Military World Cup.
