Tunisia: Constitution - Draft Law N°31 Does Not Comply With Uncrc Principles

Tunis — The version of article n°31 of the preliminary draft Constitution, on the child's rights, is against the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), as it does not stipulate that the child is a legal person, said Mr. Hatem Kotrane, Professor at the Tunis Legal, Political and Social Sciences Faculty and Deputy-Chairman of the Child Rights Committee, at a meeting held, on Monday in Tunis, on the New Constitution and the Child Rights.

The meeting was attended by Women and Family Affairs Minister Sihem Badi, UNICEF representative to Tunisia Maria Luiza Fornara and Arab Human Rights Institute Director Abdelbasset Ben Hassen.
