Kenya: IPOA Wants Police Boss Appointed Immediately

President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga have breached the law after failing to appoint a new police boss and his two deputies within the specified time.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority Chairman Macharia Njeru says the delay is likely to affect the hiring process since the police boss must be vetted by parliament which might be dissolved soon. The Police service act says the president must appoint the IG and his two deputies seven days after the shortlisted names are forwarded to him.
