Rwanda: Trio Qualify for Fina World Swimming Championships

Three Rwandan swimmers including Chantilal Mehiboob, Eloi Imaniraguha and Olympian Alphonsine Agahozo will compete in the 11th FINA World Swimming Championships scheduled for December 12-16 in Istanbul, Turkey.

17-year-old Imaniraguha of Karongi based Zenith Swimming Club qualified after winning the 2nd national swimming championships (boys 50m freestyle category) held last week at Bambino Super City in Kabuga.

Mehiboob, 17 came second, beating two-time Olympian Jackson Niyomugabo (24) into third place, while Agahozo, 15 of Cercle Sportif de Kigali won the girls 50m freestyle.

According to the Rwanda Swimming Federation Secretary General, Jean Pierre Nkurunziza, the competition was used to select the team that will represent the county at the world meet.
