Buganda Kingdom has raised over sh141m in cash and pledges in a fresh fundraising campaign in preparation for the reconstruction works of Kasubi Tombs slated to kick off on January 2nd, next year.
The tombs went consumed in flames on March 16, 2010 when unknown arsonists set them on fire, destroying most of the regalia.
The campaign code named; "Kasubi Masiro Gwanga Mujje" was launched at the Kingdoms administrative headquarters at Bulange-Mengo, Rubaga division in Kampala on Friday.
During the event, they raised sh22.93m in cash, sh5.15m in cheque and sh114.63m in pledges. The money was raised from Buganda Members of Parliament, Kingdom officials, business community and Central government officials who attended the function.
The Vice President, Edward Ssekandi and Trade Minister, Amelia Kyambadde contributed sh5m and sh6m respectively.
The tombs are the burial ground where four Buganda Kings including Walugembe Mutesa I, Basamula Mwanga, Daudi Chwa and Edward Mutesa II were buried.
The architectural plan for the main house (muzibu azaala mpanga) where the four kings were buried was also unveiled.
