Kenya: Gang Raids Police Post, 'Undress and Steals Doors

A gang raided a police post at Kijiwetanga in Malindi district and stole two doors on Sunday night. The thieves allegedly broke two doors at a private farm owned by a prominent businessman in Malindi and fled.

Officers were not at the post when the incident took place but found out about the theft in the morning. Assistant chief Baya Thoya said they are looking for the suspects.

He said the police post was established in the area to boost security but does not operate at night. "The gang raided the post at night, broke down the doors and escaped. We are pursuing them to ensure they are arrested and charged in court," Thoya said.

Residents said they do not know the thieves but the police have issued a stern warning against the suspects to surrender or they will be smoked out of their hideouts.

Malindi police boss Kiprono Langat however dismissed the claims terming them as rumors even after journalists got pictures of the broken doors. The police post was put up on a private farm owned by a prominent businessman in Malindi and fled.
