Kenya: Youth Rubbish URP-TNA Deal

Mt Elgon youth leaders allied to Prime Minister Raila Odinga have termed the pre-election pact unveiled on Sunday by DPM Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto as "backward".

A meeting of 200 youth leaders convened at the County Hall in Kapsokwony at which local ODM chair Solomon Chemngetich was present termed the alliance "unholy, undemocratic and unworkable because of its tribal overtones".

Speakers at the meeting wondered whether it was possible to unite only two of Kenya's 42 tribes and trashed claims by Kenyatta and Ruto that they were out to unite Kenyans.

Youth leader Kiprotich Kemboi asked young voters to reject leaders supporting tribal alliances Ruto and Uhuru were challenged to first clear themselves of charges facing them at the International Criminal Court at the Hague prior to seeking the country's top leadership.
