Kenya: ODM Gains in Backlash Over Uhuru-Ruto Deal

URP has suffered a setback in Teso with the defection of its parliamentary flag bearer to ODM. John Imoite who was the district chairman and Busia county treasurer said he left URP because of Ruto's 'marriage' to Kenyatta.

He said URP never sat as a party to deliberate on itss intended merger with TNA and that Ruto took a unilateral decision. "When I was in URP we agreed that our party leader William Ruto should go all the way to the ballot. But, he opted to become running mate of a person we never talked to. This made me lose trust in him," he said.
