Kenya: Heats and Pwani Hoopers Crowned CBA Champions

KIEMBENI Heats from Kisauni constituency bundled out Oceaners from Likoni constituency 63-58 to become the new Coast Basketball League champions.

Kiembeni, however, did not have it easy as the Likoni team gave as much as they received for the better part of the match. The finals held at High Level in Docks area brought to an end the six months long tournament, which has sparked a lot of interest from the coast region.

In the play-offs, Mombasa Polytechnic University College--a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture--were overpowered by high-flying defending champions Makupa Lakers 58-63.

In the women's category, Pwani Hoopers stamped their authority, thrashing Kenyatta University's Mombasa campus 41-30 in a water tight final match.

Makupa Sparks were ranked third position after their competitors, Mombasa Sports Club, failed to show up. Winners in the men's category received Sh30,000 and Sh20,000 respectively while women teams bagged Sh15,000 and Sh10,000 for the first and second places respectively.

CBA chairman Ali Hilmy and Coast Secondary Schools Sports Association chairman Rodgers Siasa Mwafungo presented the awards to the winners.
