Kenya: Ex-Olympic Champion Komen Sponsors Tana Delta Bright Students

All KCPE candidates who score 400 marks and above in this year's examinations in Tana delta district will get full sponsorship from three times Olympic world record holder Daniel Komen.

Komen said those who qualify will be assisted to further their studies in order to boost the education standards of the region that was hit by tribal clashes three months ago.

Speaking in Garsen during a peace campaign race organized by the Tegla Loroupe For Peace Foundation said Tana delta locals had great potential but were being brought down by high illiteracy levels.

Komen who took part in the race and emerged number 13 said there was need for local leaders to promote youth in athletics as many of them were talented.

He sponsored transport for the peace campaign team from Kapenguria that consisted of a team of reformed warriors from Pokot, Turkana, Karamajong of Uganda among others.

The residents accepted to keep peace and both warring communities stayed together without any conflicts during the four day peace campaign.
