The newly appointed Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Dr. Tijani Garba, reassured stakeholders in the company of the firm's support.
He gave the assurance when the immediate past Managing Director of the company, Mr. Kwatri Kwagga Yusuf formally handed over the mantle of leadership to him at a ceremony in Abuja recently.
In his acceptance speech, Garba said NAIC would improve on its service delivery to the stakeholders, particularly, farmers and insured with the organisation. He promised that all the insured farmers whose farmlands were submerged by the recent flood would be adequately paid their claims after necessary verification.
While sympathising with the teeming victims of the flood, Garba advised farmers across the country to take advantage of NAIC's services with a view to mitigating flood, draught and crop failures.
He recalled that government established NAIC to provide succour and extension services to farmers who insured with the corporation to be paid adequate compensation with a view to restoring unfortunate farmers to their positions before the various insured events and as such guarantee food security in the country.
Garba also encouraged the workers to renew their commitment to the corporation towards repositioning the agency in the face of increasing competitiveness and challenges in the insurance industry.
His appointment came after Yusuf completed his two terms of four years each in the company and he will run the specialist agricultural risks underwriter pending the approval of his appointment by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
The Kano State born Garba joined NAIC in 2005 as Assistant General Manager and later rose to the position of Deputy General Manager (Administration).
Before then, he was at various times, Director of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau and Senior and Visiting Lecturer at the Bayero University Kano. He was also Assistant General Manager at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
