Namibia: Nel and Zimmermann Take Top Honours

Windhoek — Local leading gymnasts Simone Nel and Riz Zimmermann were awarded the Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year trophies at Excelsior Gymnastic Club during their year-end prize-giving ceremony recently.

The two received their awards based on their consistent and excellent performance throughout the year, while other trophy winners in the various levels were:

Men's Artistic Gymnastics

Level 1 - Alexander Volschenk & Janu Craill

Level 2 - Matthew van der Westhuizen

Level 3 - Natie Janse van Rensburg

Level 4 - Reniér van Veen

Level 5 - Jodave Cioccolanti

Level 6 - Steytler Scholtz & Juan Lamprecht

Level 9 - Werner Graupe

Women's Artistic Gymnastics

Level 1 - Operi Tjingaete & Virimuje Kaura

Level 2 - Andrea Fourie, Zoe Polgar & Martha-Tangi Shikongo

Level 3 - Paris Pickering & Jade Denysschen

Level 4 - Uaundjua Ngapurue

Level 5 - Jhundré Eiseb

Level 6 - Yanicke Gertze

Level 7 - Batja Tjingaete

Excelsior Gymnastics Club enjoyed an excellent year again in the medals tally at the National Championships, walking away with 8 gold medals, 6 silver and 5 bronze and 78 individual apparatus medals.

The club is extremely proud of its hardworking and talented gymnasts. A special word of gratitude is extended to the club's coaches, Vasile Bogdan and Juliana Simonfi who continue to prove their worth as trainers, as well as the gymnastics technical directors.

Excelsior Gymnastics Club will re-open for training on January 14, 2013.
