Liberia: Ex-Soldiers Drags Gov't to Court

Tern — Ex-soldiers of Armed Forces of Liberia have taken the Government of Liberia to court for motion to dismiss amended petition. They issued the writ against the government on December 3, 2012 at the civil law court in Monrovia. The complaints are to appear in court on December 6 at 9:00am for hearing.

Speaking Tuesday on Benson Street, Monrovia retired Lt./Col. Richard B. Boye, chairperson of the ex-service men, totaling about 15,000 said they stood in the defense of the state, constitution, lives, and properties.

He said it was regrettable and an infringement of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) as well as Article 34 B&C of the Constitution of Liberia to have dissolved the national army as former transitional chairman Gyude Bryant did.

Lt./Col. Boye said they are peace-loving people, that's why they are using the law, and will not do anything that will undermine the peace and stability of the state.

"We think we can get redress from the court this time", he note. The ex-soldiers through the lawyer Cllr. Dempster Brown are demanding from government seven (7) years' salary payment.
