Namibia: Three Governors to Swop Regions

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has rotated three regional governors to allow Laura McLeod-Katjirua to perform her duties better as the newly elected deputy secretary general of the Swapo Party.

McLeod-Katjirua was the Governor of the Omaheke Region, but has now been brought to Windhoek as the Governor of the Khomas Region. "It is clear that the Honourable Governor [McLeod-Katjirua] cannot be expected to attend to her party responsibilities here in Windhoek, while at the same time holding a full-time position in the Omaheke Region," said Pohamba.

Rapama Kamehozu will leave his office in the Otjozondjupa Region to take over the governorship of the Omaheke Region, while Samuel Nuuyoma will leave Windhoek to be the Governor of the Otjozondjupa Region. The appointments are with immediate effect.

Pohamba announced the rotations along with the Cabinet reshuffle yesterday morning at State House.
