Gambia: Film Producers Ready for Actor & Actress Night 2012 Awards

The New Age Centre for Education and Media Resources, God Gift Film, Better Future Film and Afrinity Film Productions in collaboration with Joint Officers Mess are set for Actor and Actress Night Awards scheduled for 27 December 2012. This was disclosed on Tuesday in a press briefing held at the Joint Officers Mess in Kotu,

Responding to questions from reporters, Lamin K Janneh, the CEO of Better Future Productions, said this is the first time such awards will be given to recognise the works ofactors and actresses in The Gambia. He disclosed that the Actor and Actress Night 2012 Awards was designed to promote and expose the young actors and actresses in the country. "As well, it encourages them to go professional in order to measure up with their colleagues in other countries especially within the region," he added.

Janneh stated that the award night is meant to celebrate the artistes' performance as this can help them in realising their dreams professionally. On the type of films and criteria governing the award, he said it is open to all actors and actresses irrespective of the language used in their nominated films for screening and without tribe or nationality restriction, so far they are actors and actresses featured in film produced here in The Gambia. Janneh quickly added that for now the producers are concentrating on the screen actors and actresses alone but in future other categories can be added hence it is going to be an annual affair.

Onyeka Okechukwu, film producer and proprietor of God Gift Film Production, said that the awards night is a sustainable project that will not die half way as they are doing everything possible to make it a continuous event.

Adams Wilfred, director of Afrinity Productions, disclosed that 10 awards are in the kitty for this first ever Actor and Actress 2012 Awards. He identified them as The Best Actor and Actress of the 2012, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Youngest Actor and Actress, Best Upcoming Actor and Actress and The Best Male and Female Comedians of the Year 2012.

The actors and actresses expressed delight with the upcoming event and solicited the support of the media throughout and after the event, as they need exposure to excel in their career.
