Namibia: Geingob Victory Celebrated At Khorixas

HUNDREDS of Swapo members flocked to the party offices at Khorixas on Sunday to celebrate the re-election of Hage Geingob as the ruling party’s vice president.

The Swapo faithful first paraded in the streets of Khorixas in party colours before they marched to the party offices, where they were treated to a free braai and drinks.

Local businessman Gideon Gurirab, main sponsor of the braai, said, “Swapo has once again shown that it is united” and that the Geingob victory shows that any member can become a leader in the party irrespective of his tribal origin.

Elray Essau, a local Swapo councillor, told The Namibian that Geingob’s election shows that the Swapo Party does not belong to a single tribe.

Some religious leaders joined in the celebrations straight after their church service.

Some officials of the United Democratic Party (UDF) also donned Swapo Party colours and celebrated together with their political opponents.
