A Nairobi lawyer has sued Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka for campaigning using state resources.
In a suit certified urgent by Justice David Majanja, Harrison Kinyanjui says the two and other Cabinet ministers ought to be barred from contesting as they have been campaigning using government vehicles and state resources.
"...the March 4 elections are tilted in favour of serving state officials who have expressed intention to vie and who continue to peddle improper influence, amounting to corruption by acting in breach of Article 8 of the constitution," Kinyanjui says.
The lawyer also complained that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has failed to publish in the Kenya Gazette the guidelines that will be used in the elections.
In the petition, Kinyanjui says the IEBC has not justified why it will be using translucent ballot boxes during the elections. He says there is no guarantee that the ballot boxes will enhance transparency. The petition will be heard today.
