Kenya: Nairobi All Share Continues On a Losing Streak

The Nairobi All Share was unable to staunch a losing streak that began on the 26th November and retreated 0.07 points to close at 91.98.The Nairobi All Share is +35.205% in 2012.

The NSE20 closed 6.68 points lower at 4056.41. The NSE20 Index is +26.5522% in 2012. The Down Draft lost momentum today and the Indices look as if they are basing out again and ready to turn higher.

In Commercial and Services

Safaricom was the most actively traded share ,closed unchanged at 5.05 and traded 40.436m shares worth 204.321m which was 38.71% of the total volume traded. Safaricom remains +78.644% on a total return basis in 2012 and sits 2.8864% below its 25 month closing high of 5.20 from 26th November.

ScanGroup traded 2nd, closed unchanged at 66.00 which is a 52 week+ High. ScanGroup is +60.722% on a total return basis in 2012 and now sits less than 1% off an all time high. ScanGroup traded 801,600 shares [0.2814% of its shares] worth 52.905m. Kenya Airways eased 2.586% to close at 11.30 and traded 103,000 shares.

In Banks

Kenya Commercial Bank closed unchanged at 27.50 and traded 712,100 shares worth 19.600m.KCB is +74.183% in 2012, has corrected 9.0909% off a 53 month closing high and ahead of the release of the announcement of the new CEO now announced. Therefore, I see the Drawdown as complete.

Standard Chartered closed unchanged at 236.00 and traded 47,700 shares. Equity Bank closed unchanged at 23.00 and traded 1.109m shares worth 25.525m.

In Industrial and Allied

EABL traded 3rd, closed unchanged at 246.00 and traded 193,000 shares worth 47.571m. EABL +47.965% on a total return basis in 2012.

Athi River Mining traded 4th at the Securities Exchange. ARM firmed 0.46% to close at 219.00 and traded 163,900 shares worth 36.054m. ARM is +39.873% in 2012, trades on a Trailing PE of 18.879 and accelerated H1 PAT +25%. In fact, ARM displays one of the lowest beta profiles of the shares listed at the NSE.

Bamburi Cement traded 5th. Bamburi Cement firmed 0.57% to close at 177.00 where it traded 172,400 shares worth 30.514m. Bamburi Cement is +49.6% on a total return basis in 2012.

Portland traded 1,100 shares at 43.50 -0.57%. Portland is -22.321% in 2012.

BAT firmed 0.44% to close at 458.00 and was trading at 460.00 +0.88% at the closing Bell. BAT traded 57,800 shares worth 26.51m. BAT is +98.577% on a Total Return Basis in 2012 and is 2.55% below an all time closing high of 470.00 from November 9th this year. BAT trades on a trailing PE of 14.783 and accelerated H1 PAT +20.6%.

KenGen eased 0.5102% to close at 9.75 and traded 1.32m shares. Kenya Power retreated a further 1.219% to close at 16.20 and traded 319,200 shares.
