Somalia: Battle Flares Up Near Galgala Mountains,Northern Somalia

Bossaso — At least seven combatants have been killed in a heavy battle broke out Wednesday near the port and commercial city of Bossaso, a security minister said.

The attack occurred in Galgala Mountains, in the semiautonomous Puntland region, where the al-Shabab rebels are trying to expand their influence.

Khalif Isse Mudan, security minister for Puntalnd state said his forces attacked the hide out areas in the Galgala Mountains, and killed 7 militia fighters.

In 2010, Puntland forces dismantled the capability of the fighters loyal to Sheikh Atam in Galgala Mountains, northern Somalia.
