South Africa: Cairns in Durban

HIGH Flying Zimbabwean golfer Ryan Cairns will once again be the only local player to take part in the Nelson Mandela Championships, which tee of at Durban Country Club this morning.

Cairns is in good form that has seen him improve on his Sunshine Tour order of Merit this season.

The former Canadian Tour player had a bye in the event after he won his first ever-Sunshine Tour event this season.

Cairns was expected to be have been joined by former Sunshine tour winner Tongo Charamba who played in the pre-qualifiers of the event.

Charamba fell short in the round that he finished on one-under-par 71 for position 28. Only 10 people were to join the field and Charamba could not make it so it will be Cairns who will be expected to raise the country's flag high. Cairns made the cheque in the last event as he finished 11th in the South Africa Open Championships.

He will now be hoping to carry on with his fine form when he tees of at 7am this morning.

The Zimbabwean will play along with South Africa's Trevor Fisher Jnr and Fabrizio Zanotti of Paraguay.

Meanwhile all is set for the Darren Bismark longest drive competition set for Marondera Country Club this weekend.
