Namibia: Retailers Set Their Sights On X-Mas

Windhoek — Since only a few weeks remain before Christmas Day, retailers have increased the visibility of specials and promotional sets designed specifically for the festive season.

Speaking on behalf of the pharmaceuticals, health, home and beauty retailer, Clicks, assistant manager Nancy Gomes told New Era special gifts for Christmas have been compiled and wrapped into single packages to make it easier for customers to just buy once and go.

This is opposed to the traditional method of buying items one by one, which she thinks is a rather tedious way of doing Christmas shopping. Gomes further noted that compiled 'Christmas sets' will also attract more customers, because they are always on special and well-decorated and ultimately saves the customer time and energy.

Some of the items on special offer and which are specifically designed for Christmas include toileteries. "There is also a Top Gear, Nivea Perfume set that is only made for men. This consist of lotion, perfume as well as spray," said Gomes.

"There is also gift line for kids that is made exclusively for kids and this includes bubble bath gel for kids, sweets and toys," explained Gomes. Apart from the above-mentioned special items, Home Choice also offers special Christmas sets of high ball glasses, as well as salt and pepper shakers and wine glasses. Paulus Lukas, floor manager at Home Choice, told New Era that most of the items on special for Christmas are discounted by 20 percent.

He said the reason retailers offer their products on special is because they want their customers to know more about their products, especially during the festive season. Another special at Home Choice is the Barbeque promotion set that is comprised of two packs of tools that are also marked down by 20 percent. Lukas urged customers to spend their money wisely, saying they must choose with a budget in mind.
