Nigeria: University of Jos Holds Valedictory Session for Professor Lassa

Jos — A valedictory session and book launch was yesterday held in honour of Professor Peter Lassa, a renowned mathematician and pioneer executive secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education at the University of Jos.

The session which was organised by the Department of Science and Technology Education of the university also witnessed the launch of a book titled, "Politics and Educational Policies in Nigeria". Chief host of the occasion, Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Professor Hayward Babale Mafuyai, said Lassa is a living mathematical dictionary.

In his speech, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Cletus Gotan, described Professor Lassa as one of the most impactful figures in the field of mathematics education.

Professor Gotan urged the university to consider honouring Professor Lassa with the title of Professor Emeritus.

Responding, Professor Lassa expressed gratitude to the management and students of the university, adding that he will continue to assist the institution whenever possible.
