Nigeria: FCT to Spend N2.4 Billion On Science School

The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been told that the Government Science School, Maitama, will gulp the sum of N2.4billion.

The committee heard this yesterday from the FCT Deputy Director (Infrastructure), Education Secretariat, Kamfut Awallan, during an oversight visit to the school.

Awallan noted that the project was awarded in 2005 at N900million, but the contract sum was raised to N1.6billion in 2012.

Awallan, who claimed that the 48- classroom school project had been executed 46 percent, said N824million would be required to complete it.

According to him, N673 million has already been paid to the contractors handling the project.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, decried that despite funds appropriated for the project since 2005, it had not reached an appreciable level of completion.

The committee also visited the site of the International Technical and Vocational Institute, Utako, which Awallan said would require N1.3billion to complete.
