Kenya: Three Ethiopians in Thika Jailed for Nine Months

Three Ethiopians found in the country illegally have been jailed for nine months by a Thika court. Habar Bekeke, Dameske Hishore and Kepid Maimo pleaded guilty to the charges before principal magistrate B.J Ndenda.

The accused were arrested in Thika's Makongeni Estate on November 29. They were each jailed for three months and will be repatriated back to Ethiopia upon completion of their sentences.

Police prosecutor Kenneth Kiruai told the court that illegal immigrants pose danger to Kenya's security. Meanwhile, the court remanded two Somalis who denied charges of being in Kenya illegally and failing to report their entry to immigration officials.

Sahara Adan and Amina Bare were arrested at a road block at Makongeni in Thika. Adan and Bare were unable to raise the Sh20,000 bond and surety of similar amount or the Sh10,000 cash bail imposed on them. The case will be heard on February 19.
