The Bank of Uganda has cancelled all commemorative banknotes issued in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II's visit to Uganda in 2007.

The BoU will also withdraw all older notes, issued in 1987, saying they have served their time.

Deputy Governor Dr Louis Kasekende yesterday told a news conference at the central bank, that after March 30, 2013 the banknotes will no longer be legal tender. Only Shs 93bn shillings of the old notes are still in circulation, since the central bank issued new notes in 2007.
