Tunisia: No Intention to Reconsider Call for General Strike, Next Thursday, Says Abassi

Carthage — "The administrative commission of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) had decided to call for a general strike on Thursday, December 13, and we have no intention to reconsider that decision," said UGTT Secretary-General Hassine Abassi, at the end of his meeting with President Moncef Marzouki.

Mr. Abassi explained that, by and large, the talk with Mr. Marzouki turned on the country's delicate political, social and economic situation.

The UGTT Secretary-General added he did not raise with the President of the Republic the issue of the general strike, in an answer to TAP reporter's question.

The present crisis has been caused by some sides who are bent upon imposing their views and orientations on the labour organisation by force, he lamented.
