THE global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption gave Namibia a score of 48, positioning it 58th out of 176 countries.
Transparency International in this year's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) says two-thirds of the 176 countries ranked below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean), showing that public institutions need to be more transparent, and powerful officials more accountable. Namibia's best score to date was 57 in 1998 but the country has been unable to remain above 50 for the last decade.
