Zimbabwe: Tatea DA Mc Up for Hip Hop Gong

Up and-coming rapper Tatenda Nziramasanga aka Tatea Da MC has been nominated for three awards at the Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards slated for December 12 at the 7Arts Theatre.

Tatea Da MC will be competing with the likes of Maskiri and MC Chitah for the Best Male Artist 2012, Best Video and Song of the Year categories.

"I'm honoured to have been nominated in the same categories with people considered to be among the best in the country. It has taken hard work and patience to get this far," Tatea Da MC said.

His first single, HTown, taken off the mix tape Sunshine City Swagger, was nominated twice for the Best Song and Best Video awards.

Tatea Da MC said hip hop in Zimbabwe was slowly making inroads into mainstream music and gaining a wider audience although its following was mainly among the youth.

"I feel Zimbabwe is still lagging behind in embracing hip hop but it will happen with time," he said.
