Serekunda Hospital yesterday received donated medical items from one Bob Jones from the United Kingdom. The donated items include shoes, reading glasses, antiseptive wipes, dressings and syringes.
In a brief remark, Musa Mendy of the Ministry of Basic Education said Bob is his friend and has been coming to the Gambia for the past 14years. He explained that since he knows him 10years ago, he has been working in helping the country in not only donating medical items but also building schools. He said presently they are building a school in Lamin Daranka for the community. Mr. Mendy added that similar medical donations were made to AFPRC Hospital in Farafenni, Serrekunda Health Centre and RVTH Hospital. He said Bob was also able to do some renovation at the Hospital. Similar donations were also made to Bakau Health Centre, he said. Mr. Mendy stated that Bob also gave out over thousand t-shirts to schools and to the Disaster Management Committee of Kanifing Municipality. The hospital he went on, need to be supported by the people.
For his part Bob Jones commended them for the warm welcome accorded to him. He said it gives him pleasure for him to donate the equipments and hope that they would be put into good use. He said they cannot have too much but his small contribution will improve the hospital and help the patients visiting the hospital.
The Principal Nursing Officer at the Serrekunda Hospital Momodou Jallow described the gesture as worthy; noting that the instruments are expensive. He said they are happy that the communities are looking back and thinking of the hospital in the process of maximizing its development. Mr. Jallow stated that sooner or later the hospital will take over RVTH in terms of patient care. He added that by next year it is going to be a different story he said. He said it is this type of philanthropist whose contribution makes good impact and expressed wish that a lot of people like him come to help including the NGOs and parastatals. He noted that no matter how much the government puts in there, it will never be enough. He therefore calls on all to assist the hospital.
The Administrator of Serrekunda Hospital Tumani Janneh commented Bob for what he calls the great gesture.
