Kenya: TSC Ordered to Pay Pensioners
By Irene Wairimu, 7 December 2012
The TSC has told the High Court that 'administrative issues' are to blame for the failure to pay out Sh3.34 billion to a group of retired teachers.
TSC's deputy director in charge of legal affairs Allan Sitima said the more than 50,000 pensioners did not support their claims with documents showing their last salaries as stipulated by the Pensions Act.
Sitima told Nakuru's Judge Anyara Emukule that failure to pay the pension was occasioned by administrative issues. Emukule ordered the commission to release the amount in 45 days time failure to which the TSC would be held in contempt of court.
