Kenya: IEBC Puts Registration Centres On Google Maps

You can now find a voter registration centre that is nearest to you through Google Maps.

In response to the huge demand for information on where Kenyans can register to vote, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has launched an online tool (http://vote.iebc.or.ke) which allows voters to find the nearest registration centre using Google Maps.

The launch of this tool is in line with the IEBC policy of using technological innovations in providing timely and relevant information. Google Maps will ease the identification of registration centres and enable more Kenyans to register for the Commission meet the 18 million target at the end of the voter registration exercise. There are over 14 million internet subscribers in the country.

It is embedded with the IEBC website and can also be linked to websites of various stakeholders in the electoral process. The Commission has also been taking advantage of the high mobile penetration( 75 per cent) to reach out to potential voters through SMS.
