Uganda: Men Can't Fund My Entire Life

Faridah Walden is an upcoming artiste and actress. she talked to Carol Kasujja about her love life.

Is Walden your real name?

It is my name. When my father died, an African-American man, Edward Walden, adopted me and gave me his name, because he did not have children at the time. I love him so much because he made me who I am today.

Some people say Chosen, with whom you sang Pressure Ya Love is your cousin, while others say he is your boyfriend; which is which?

Chosen is my cousin. But we fell out.

Why did you fall out?

After recording three songs, he told me he was tired of duos and wanted to go solo.

Did you get a sugar daddy to fund your music career?

No one has ever funded me. In the beginning, Chosen and I shared the bills. I am a radio presenter, so from my little savings, I managed to pay studio fees to record my songs. I do not believe in men funding my entire life.

You seem shy. When was the first time you got intimate?

Oh My God! You are bringing back the memories. It was in 2006, when I was in S6 vacation. I was trying to be adventurous. I was not in love with him, but I wanted to experience everything.

They say the first cut is the deepest, would you accept him back if he asked?

He has tried so many times, but I have moved on. One mistake women make is they always get an excuse of sleeping with their first cut. I cannot. When you move on, do not look back. The first phrase in Pressure Ya Love was from my first experience.

Would you bewitch a man to keep him?

When I am acting in plays I usually bewitch men, but in real life, I cannot and I will never. Keeping a man requires good behaviour and feeding him, then he will not look elsewhere, unless he is one of those natural cheats.

How far can you go to keep a man?

My knees! If I do everything I am supposed to do as a woman and a man proves to be stubborn, I will go on my knees and pray to God. With God, you cannot go wrong.

Since you have tips on keeping a man, who is the lucky man in your life?

We have just started dating. We are still on a honeymoon. I want to keep it private, I do not want people to talk ill about me.

We have not heard another song after Pressure Ya Love. Has your acting career taken over?

My songs have probably not been fully promoted. I have more than four songs out there.
