Track judges at the Eko 2012 National Sports Festival cast a shadow on the track events of the 18th National Sports Festival with cases of 'results fixing'.

During the course of the races there were myriads of complaints from athletes and coaches whose results were down scaled while some others who failed to measure up were uplifted.

"It is a shame what we saw here. At this present time of our development this can still be happening? The judges came under the influence of States who want their athletes to progress when they had not gotten the right result," said former sprinter and Ondo State athletics coach, Lawrence Adejuigbe.

However, vice president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Jide Josaih blamed the development on faulty equipment. He said the track judges had to be engaged as the device that could have given accurate timing and finishing of the athlete was not in use.

"We have 'MacFinish' but when it was being conveyed to the venue it developed a fault. There was no other alternative than to rely on the track judges and of course they can be subjected to inducement,"he said.
