Tunisia: Strikes Sweep Tunisia

Regional branches of Tunisia's General Labour Union (UGTT) on Thursday (December 6th) mounted strikes in Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Gafsa and Sfax, Espace Manager reported.

According to the UGTT, the strike achieved a 95% observance rate in Gafsa. The local labour actions precede a general strike called for December 13th.

Also on Thursday, the General Tunisian Confederation of Workers (CGTT) declared its "full solidarity" with the UGTT and denounced all violence directed against the larger labour union, Tunisie Numerique reported.

Assailants attacked trade unionists earlier this week in Tunis during a gathering held to mark the 60th anniversary of the assassination of UGTT founder Farhat Hached
