President Mohamed Morsi revoked the controversial constitutional declaration he issued last month, but the constitution referendum will be held on 15 December as scheduled, Dr. Mohamed Selim El-Awa said.

Awa added that the president held a lengthy meeting with more than 50 national figures.

The new declaration cancelled the previous one issued on November 21, he said, adding that the existing effects did not change.

"If the people voted no to the referendum, a new Constituent Assembly will be formed within three months via general elections, after which it will write a new constitution within six months," El-Awa read out one of the articles of the new constitutional declaration.

In the same context, the Vice President Mahmoud Mekki asserted during the press conference that the Higher Elections Commission has taken all measures to prepare for a referendum on the constitution on 15th December.

Number of judges who submitted their acceptance to supervise the referendum is enough, Mekki said.
