Egypt: ANHRI Calls the President to Intervene to Stop the Escalated the Violations Against the Media and Newspapers

ANHRI condemns the brutal and deliberate assault on number of the journalists and media representatives in the El-Thadydia palace, among of this assaults the deliberate murder. ANHRI also condemns the siege of the Egyptian Media Production City by some political forces in addition to the threatens to siege other media and newspapers headquarters. The figures of these forces sworn via media outlets and incitement to harm and threaten them.

ANHRI condemns the failure of the concerned authorities to perform its natural job against these violations. ANHRI said that the ministry of interior is especially responsible shall bear the total responsibility regarding the damages of the journalists and media representatives in addition to their equipments and foundations as a result of not performing their duty in protecting them as citizens and to protect their foundations as a public or private foundations.

The surrondings of El-Thadydia palace (the presidential base) witnessed all the Wensday December 5, 2012 violences erupted when several protesters who support the president attacked the place of the sit-in in front of the palace. The attack developed to be a bloody clashes between the parties which led to 6 murders and more than 750 injuries according to ministry of health. In the frame of the attack, several media-representatives and journalists suffered from violations, as they were beaten and their cameras and equipments were destroyed. "Elhussieny Abou-Daef" a journalist in El-Fagr newspaper was shot by cartouche from a short distance which asserted that he was targeted.

In the same context, hundreds who are affiliated to Islamists began a sit-in in front of the Egyptian city of media-production in a protest against the bias against the president decisions according to them. The news spread that the sit-in asking who enters the city to show their identity before they are allowed to get in. In the same time the verbal attacks escalated by islamists against several media representatives in line with the practices which is a violations against them. In same context, "Yusuf Elhussieny", stated that he was attacked and received several threatens to change his residents to a place he did not tell.

ANHRI "the deliberate attack on the journalists and media-representatives is a crime and in addition to it is a violation to the public opinion to access to knowledge through the live picture to the events. Therefore, there are several international charters and treaties obliged the countries and the different groups to protect the journalists and media-representatives during performing their job in the regions of conflicts, as they were targeted in this conditions as a trial to hid the truth and block information from the public opinion".

ANHRI said that the republican guardians and ministry of interior are responsible for the attacks on the journalists and media representatives, especially as such violations conducted while in their presence and maybe in cooperations with some of them. ANHRI called the authorities to investigate promptly all the violations in the frame of these events, especially related to the journalists and media-representatives.

ANHRI said that "the right to peaceful protest and assault on the protesters must be investigated and bring who incited such acts before justice. On contrary, the evading from the peaceful protest to the siege of the foundations are terrorizing and threatens to violence against the staff and visitors are violations to the investigation of these circumstances and bring the instigators to justice".

ANHRI called the DA to investigate the slender, incitement and defamation crimes which are escalated against the journalists and media-representatives. Such crimes aim to terrorize and silence their voices. ANHRI calls the president to stop such persistent campaigns against the media and newspapers, which conducted by the presidency institution, FJP, MB or other groups and parties affiliated to Islamists. Such groups support the president and make him doubly responsible to encounter it.
