COTU secretary general, Francis Atwoli has been elected Vice President of the Organization of the African Trade Union Unity to serve for a five-year term.
The elections were held yesterday in Algiers, Algeria during the 10th Congress of the Pan-African Trade Union movement, which oversees the continent's union activities.
His election means that Atwoli will double up as Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation, whose headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium and also of the International Labour Organization.
The elections that were held after a 10 days meeting and attended by more than 1000 delegates, gave the presidency to Sudan, secretary general to Nigeria and treasurer general to Eritrea.
