Nigeria: Varsity Appoints Nasarawa Monarch As Chancellor

The Board of Trustees of Kwarrarafa University, Wukari in Taraba State, has appointed a Nasarawa State traditional ruler, the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Ahmadu Oga-Onawo, as chancellor of the institution.

Presenting the letter of appointment to the Andoma yesterday in his palace, chairman of the board, Mr Samuel Danjuma-Gani, said the appointment was based on merit.

"The appointment is based on the contributions of the Andoma to the development of the Kwarrarafa kingdom", Danjuma- Gani said.

He added that the Kwarrarafa University was one of the institutions in the country that was purely financed by sons and daughters of the area, which cuts across over 40 tribes.

The chairman, who was accompanied by members of the board, said the university was established in 2005, and that it has graduated four sets of students.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Yakubu Aboki, said the appointment of the Andoma was a welcome development and that he would enrich the university community with his wealth of experience.

Aboki added that the university has always identified with people with proven integrity, record, and excellence that would help to move the institution forward.

In his acceptance speech, the Andoma thanked the university for the appointment and said that education was the only panacea for development.
