An outbreak of suspected case of wild polio virus been reported in Jahi village in Gwarinpa District of the FCT.
FCT Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Board (FCTPHCDB), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, who confirmed the outbreak when he a led a team of officials, yesterday on a two-day mop up immunization, said the last case was reported in Dobi village in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
He said a two and half year old Yusuf Haruna, who missed the required four-term routine immunisation, has been infected with the polio virus and would start receiving physiotherapist treatment today.
Mohammed also said that 50,000 doses of polio vaccines have been received from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and coupled with aid from WHO and UNICEF, the outbreak of the polio disease would be controlled.
Reacting, the leader of the community, Adamu Dogo, commended the board for the prompt intervention to check the polio outbreak in the community.
