In order to actualise its desire and dream to have a team to participate in the Gambian domestic 3rd Division league, an eight-team tournament organised by the Ebotown Youth Development Association Saturday kicked-off at the Ebotown Football Park.
Speaking to this reporter, Alhagie Cham, president of the Association and former minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure, said the tournament is meant to identify potential players for 3rd Division team qualifiers. "We got about eight teams from Ebotown, New Jeshwang and part of Tallinding. We are going to select players from this tournament to come up with a strong team for that will represent these communities to the 3rd Division league," he explained.
He said the Ebotown Youth Development Association was formed a few months ago. "I am happy that we have managed to start, even though we doubted the park. Youths are the future leaders of this country and there is the need to promote grassroots football as you can see the GFA is coming up with a constitution that is decentralizing the game at the grassroots level," he added.
