Nigeria: Shortage of Athletes Hits Lagos

Eko 2012 revealed that Lagos State is facing a shortage of quality athletes and they are looking up to new coaching recruit, Lee Evans to spark an athletics revival.

Coach Lee Evans disclosed at the National Stadium Lagos that there was so much work to be done, if Lagos hopes to close the gap between it and other States like Rivers and Delta who dominated the athletics events of the National Sports Festival.

"Lagos has no quality athletes and this is what we are going to be working on before the next sports festival," said the former 400m world record holder.

He added that grassroots development programmes have been lined up to discover trainable athletes.

"Apart from this, I will also be conducting classes for local coaches at the Lagos State University. This is to update the coaches on modern coaching techniques. With this we should be able to compete favourably at the next National Sports Festival," said the coach.
