Tanzania: Govt Pledges Sh2 Billion to Coffee Development Programmes

THE government has pledged 2bn/- in seed fund to beef up the Tanzania Coffee Development Trust Fund's (TCDTF) subsidy of coffee inputs, farmer education and other industry rejuvenation campaigns.

Director General of Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB), Engineer Adolph Kumburu has said that the fund, which sources its revenues from levies on coffee sold at Moshi auction, was established to solve the over 30-year problems facing the coffee sector in the country.

Engineer Kumburu said during the National Coffee Conference (NCC) held in Morogoro recently, the Fund's Board of Trustees was formed to ensure that the new Fund was managed efficiently and used productively. The NCC passed a resolution to maintain a tradition of constructive discussions in resolving problems in the coffee sector.
